Description
The Betsy Ross House is a landmark in Philadelphia purported to be the site where the seamstress and flag-maker Betsy Ross lived when she sewed the first American Flag.
In the middle of the courtyard is a statue of cats. This statue was commissioned after the restoration of the house.
According to the traditional account, the original flag was made in June 1776, when a small committee including George Washington, Robert Morris and relative George Ross visited Betsy and discussed the need for a new American flag.
